Auxillary Pitch Cards

Another unique twist in XTRA INNINGS!

In the OFFENSE and DEFENSE decks there are ten cards which are played during the PITCHING SEQUENCE but ONLY AFTER CERTAIN PITCHES. They are - "Hit by Pitch", "Checked Swing", "Called Strike", "Foul Ball", "Foul Tip", "Wild Pitch", "Great Scoop", "Great Scoop 'n Pick-Off", "Sac Bunt", and "Sac Fly".

The "Hit by Pitch" card may be played immediately after the first pitch of the game, BUT ONLY IF THE FIRST PITCH IS A "BALL". Other cards may be used any time during the PITCH COUNT after either BALLS or STRIKES, depending on player strategy. They are played by OFFENSE to avoid strike-outs ("Foul Ball", "Checked Swing") and to advance runners ("Wild Pitch", "Sac Bunt"). The DEFENSE then may play cards to overrule them ("Foul Tip", "Called StriKe").

Please note none of the DEFENSE cards can be overruled by the "Error" card. The "Error" card is fully explained in the OFFENSE/DEFENSE rules section.

 

Here is a quick summery of the AUXILIARY PITCH CARDS.

"Hit by Pitch" - Played only after a "BALL" - Cannot be overruled.

"Wild Pitch" - Played only after a "BALL" Overruled by "Great Scoop" or "Great Scoop 'n Pick-Off".

"Checked Swing" - Played only after a "STRIKE" - Overruled by "Called Strike".

"Foul Ball" - Played only after THIRD "STRIKE" - Overruled by "Foul Tip".

"Sac Bunt" and "Sac Fly" - Played only after "STRIKE" but NEVER AFTER STRIKE THREE.

 



"Hit by Pitch" - Played during PITCH COUNT but ONLY after a BALL. BATTER goes to 1st base.



"Checked Swing" - Played during PITCH COUNT but ONLY after a STRIKE -  STRIKE becomes a BALL.

Overruled by "Called Strike" - STRIKE remains a STRIKE.



"Foul Ball" - Played ONLY after 3rd STRIKE to avoid STRIKEOUT. PITCH COUNT remains the same.

Overruled by "Foul Tip" - BATTER is OUT.



Wild Pitch" - Played during PITCH COUNT but ONLY after a BALL.

All RUNNERS advanae ONE BASE. PITCH COUNT remains the same.

 

Overruled by "Great Scoop" - RUNNERS CANNOT advance. PITCH COUNT remains the same. "Great Scoop" CANNOT be overruled by "Error" card.

 

Also overruled by "Great Scoop 'n Pick-Off" - LEAD RUNNER is OUT. PITCH COUNT remains the same.

 

NOTE - "Great Scoop" and "Great Scoop 'n Pick-Off" CANNOT BE OVERRULED BY "Error" card.







This is the end of the cards which are used during the PITCHING SEQUENCE after SPECIFIC PITCHES. The balance of the cards in the OFFENSE and DEFENSE card decks may be used after ANY PITCH, depending on game situations and play strategy.
